The world blinked. Karyn was blinded for a second. When the flash cleared, she found herself standing outside a multistory apartment complex ... that was a few inches shorter than she was.
A five-inch tall Jon stood on a tiny balcony looking up at Karyn. "Look what you've done! You didn't just chnage me - you've changed my whole family! I'm a leprechaun!"
"Y-you are!" Karyn gasped. Jon looked like the Lucky Charms characteer. His face was roughly the same, if one ignored his new bright red hair and freckles. If that weren't weird enough, his green clothing looked like a doll's.
"Don't shout!" yelled Jon.
"I ..." Karyn could barely hear her friend ... if he was still her friend after what she had done.
"Just don't talk, period! And watch your step!"
Karyn noticed that there were more five-inch tall redheeaded leprechauns walking around her feet and past cars that were only fifteen inches long.
"Crazy human," snarled a female leprechaun getting into her miniature SUV.
"What'd she call me?" asked Karyn.
"HUMAN!!" screamed Jon. "What I used to be!"
Leprechauns on the street muttered among each other. The consensus was that the teenaged boy up there must be crazy. One of those species dysphorics convinced he should have been a giant ... a human. Thinking he was really a female leprechaun would have made a lot more sense.
"Oh no ..." Karyn saw little buildings all around her. How much of her town had become leprechaunized? She was a freak now, a Godzilla - which was so much worse than having blue skin. Maybe she'd be normal outside her hometown. But this was she belonged, or used to belong. She wanted to be with everyone she knew, and that wasn't realistic given the fact that she was now twelve times taller than them. She found the notepad atop the roof of Jon's building and wrote,
"Karyn is a leprechaun"
