Jon's smirk of anticipation changed in a flash to shocked panic. "What the fuck!".
"Jon, your language", Karyn admonished. "We've talked about this before! Using crude language does not make you appear more macho. It diminishes you, and face facts Jon, you don't need that." Karyn said pointing her finger accusingly at Jon as she stepped close and loomed over him.
"Damn it Karyn, look at me! Hell, look at us both! I only come up to your chin. Doesn't that seem a little odd to you?"
"Jon, I know we are a pretty odd pair, and I admit you are the worse off being a guy who's only five foot one, and truth be told, we both know that's only in your shoes, but why this sudden rant?"
"That's just it Karyn. I'm not short, er ... I'm not supposed to be short. I wasn't short a second ago. In fact, I'm taller than you even with your magical increase. It's this stupid magic pencil. Here read it!"
Karyn took the note pad that Jon was holding up to her face and read what it said:
'I am 5 feet 1 inches tall.'
"But, but ... This crazy! I remember you as always being a shr... as always being on the short side. You're telling me you did this to yourself a minute ago? Why? Why would you do something like that?"
"I didn't intend to", John whined. "I didn't even write that, you did! Well you sorta did anyway. You made yourself tall and were being so smarmy about it, I just erased a part of it and ... er ... that is ... it was an accident. Never mind, give me back the paper so I can erase it and get back to normal."
"Not so fast little man!" Karyn glowered and held the paper up out of Jon's reach. "You tried to make me a shrimp."
"No, I uh ... petite! I was just going to make you petite. You know, for a little bit. It would have been fun. I'm sorry, I screwed things up. Give me back the paper and I'll put everything back."
"So despite my believing that you've always been short, in reality this is a brand new shock to you. Instead of me being petite, you are and you don't like it. Of course you don't like it, who would? You know, now that I think about it, I guess I got angry too quickly. I owe you an apology. You're were right, this will be fun!"
Jon looked wide eyed up at Karyn, "Wha ... What do you mean?"
