Karyn was fascinated by the pencil's effect on Jon. It seemed that once he became aware of what was written, he could admit that it was wrong and want to change things. Also, when it was erased, he retained some memory of the event. She pressed the pencil to the paper, having decided what to test next.
Jon wants to go back to having a big date with Biff.
She looked up at Jon, who now was standing, shifting from foot too foot, looking uncomfortable in his own skin. He obviously had something he wanted to say to Karyn, but didn't know how to bring it up. She thought she'd help him out.
"Jon, is something up?"
"Um, yeah, I guess..." he sputtered.
"Come on, Jon, let's hear it."
"Well, uh, it's just that... can you change me back? You know, to going on the date with Biff? When I think about it now, it's not that I minded dressing up, and it sure was nice having someone who liked me - even if it was Biff."
Karyn giggled. She easily predicted this part of the experiment. It was the next part that she was interested in.
"No problem, Jon, but first, look at what I wrote." She handed the pad over to him, making sure to keep the pencil out of his reach.
Jon read the pad, realization coming over his face. "You mean, it's not real? I don't really want to go out with Biff?"
"No Jon, of course you don't. It's just what I wrote on with the magic pencil!" She was outright laughing at this point.
