the "old" lady

"There she is. The lady that sold me the necklace when Mikey joined the girl scouts." pointed out Krista.
She didn't actually look that old. Apparently the woman's age was part of Krista's story. She was a woman likely in her 40s, which slightly graying hair and smile lines on her face. Mikey and the others had pictured a witch, with a weird nose and a wart.
"What?" asked Krista.
"She looks around the same age as my mom," suggested Mikey.
"Well, she looked old to 10 year old me," replied Krista.
Mikey walked up to the woman and her table of random stuff. There was some records, clothing and other jewelry. Mikey briefly wondered if any of the other stuff on her table was magic.
"Hello there, young man. What can I get for you?" asked the woman
"I'm just looking for now," said Mikey
"I got something from here a couple years ago," interrupted Krista
"What was that."
"This necklace," said Krista, pointing to the necklace around Mikey's neck.
The woman put her hand on the necklace and looked closely at it.
"I remember this piece. I got it on my trip to Greece at a temple shop run by a local. It was near the Temple of Apollo. The local called it the Necklace of Mars and Venus. He told me, it changed genders of the wearer. He told me how he was a she, and wanted to run the family business in the 1960s and the gods answered his prayers. I didn't get the whole story, because his English wasn't so good, but he said he was done with it and I could have it for what seemed like a good price. I just thought it looked nice. Never wore it, and decided to sell the thing, a lady only needs so much jewelry. It matched your shirt."
"Do you remember anything else about that shop? " inquired Mikey.
"It was a little old and musty. The guy must have been in his 70s. I got a few other things from there, but nothing with such an elaborate story."
"Thanks for letting us know about where it came from, it's a unique piece." said Diane.
"See anything else you like?" asked the woman.
"No thanks." said all the scouts at once.
As the quartet walked away from the booth, they went to get hot cocoa and a snack. They sat on the floor a bit away from the hustle.
"Well, we have a lead now," said Diane.
"Yea, but it is across an ocean," replied Mikey.
"The internet makes the world smaller," encouraged Heather, "We can use google maps and stuff to see if that shop is still around, or maybe who that guy was."
"Right, we can do something here." seconded Krista.
After their snack, they went their separate ways. Mikey learned a lot about Greek and Roman mythology over the rest of his vacation. Apparently, the gods were always turning themselves into this or that and messing around with mortals' lives.
After the New Year, school started, but with a change. Sex Ed each week. All the 6th graders learned a little from eachother and the internet, but the second half of sixth grade is when they got formally educated on it. The first couple classes were taught to the whole class. The teachers spoke in generalities about becoming an adult the first class, and a short video about pregnancy and a powerpoint about STDs in the second class. Then the class was divided into boys and girls for the remaining 6 classes. All the scouts wanted to attend both sets of classes, except Diane. She said she liked being a girl, and felt she knew all she needed to about puberty for boys.
Mikey got quite the education. In the boy classes, he was told about condom use, ejaculations and "night emission." There were diagrams for his insides. There was a lot of talk of STDs and consent. After some talk about sex, he thought about Diane and wondered what she thought about the topic. In the girls class though, it seemed like there was a lot more to cover. As Michele, she saw videos on childbirth, pictures of breasts changing, bra sizes, breastfeeding, periods, tampons, female birth control methods, it seemed endless. Mikey had a nightmare where he was pregnant as Mikey and was having contractions and they had to do one of those C-sections he learned about in the girl's class. When he told Diane about it, she told him to watch the movie Junior.
The other classes were easy for both Mikey/Michele. The softball team, once again did well. Mikey was green belt. At the end of the school, Michele lobbied hard for a trip to Greece at some point. His mom and dad thought it could be fun, and that maybe they could go in the next couple years. They'd need to save up. Jon thought it would be cool. Jon took Michele aside and told her that he'd like to go overseas too, and he thought they would be able to go this summer, then winked.
