One of the soldiers grabbed Phil on his way down the stairs.
"You have to lock me up. I've been infected," Phil told the soldier.
"Hold on. What happened?"
"Chris, you're not listening to me. You have to lock me up. Soon I'm gonna ..." He displayed a look of terror.
"Okay, okay. But first tell us what happened."
"I knocked on the kid's door. He wouldn't answer, so I walked in. His radio was on, blasting that horrible signal. I turned it off, but I was exposed. I started to change and ..."
"What happened to the kid?"
Then Phil looked at Chris oddly. "I'm not telling you."
"Huh? Why not?"
Phil then looked from one soldier to the next. "I'm not telling you fucking zombies anything!"
Chris was amazed at the speed of the conversion. At one moment, he was talking to his friend. Then the next, it was like Phil was a completely different person.
"Come on," Chris told the other soldiers. "Let's take him outside."
The soldiers grabbed Phil and took him outside. All the while, Phil was writhing, trying to get away, screaming at them. "Let go of me, you fucking zombies!"
Chris hated that signal. He had just lost a friend to it.
