They entered Richard's office, closed the door, and saw Denise and Seth sitting on a sofa that was in the room. Shock came across all four of their faces.
Denise and Seth were geeks! Denise was dressed in an unattractive frumpy white blouse, a long black business skirt, and 1-inch heeled shoes. Her hair was greasy and unkempt, she had no make-up, and (like Susan) she had buck teeth.
Seth wore a white buttoned-up shirt with a bowtie and black slacks. His hair was combed, but it looked greasy, like he hadn't shampooed it recently. He also now wore glasses.
Both Denise and Seth had agreed that their boss should be a geek like them, but apparently it had already been done.
"How did you become geeks already?" Denise asked. "Did Samantha use the device on you?"
"Samantha?" Richard sat at his desk.
"Yes, Samantha Duncan."
"Duncan? As in Jay Duncan?"
"Yes," Denise said. "That's her son."
"Well, her son was the one who changed us. He did it last night."
Denise reached down and picked up the device, which was laying on the floor next to the sofa. "Well, his mother brought this in today."
Richard's eyes went wide. This was the object that had helped both him and his wife become geeks. He owed a lot to that object. And so did his wife.
"She thought that we could determine how it works," she went on to explain. "And maybe make more."
"And what did she find?"
"Nothing so far. But if we keep analysing it ..."
"No. If we'll have to, we'll change one person at a time," Richard said.
They were all in agreement, although they weren't sure why they had this drive to turn other people into geeks. They just did.
