As she sat there, Denise was trying to think of how to fix this. She had a lot of money and influence. Fixing her attire and washing her hair wouldn't be too hard to do. But fixing her teeth? She obviously couldn't do that herself.
Why did Samantha and Larry create a device that makes people ugly, anyway? What about making one that could do the opposite? Now, that's a money-making idea.
She decided to just leave work, go back to her apartment (she lived downtown), and fix this as much as possible.
But then, an odd question popped up in her mind: What's wrong with the clothes I'm wearing? Well, she answered that question in a heartbeat. Because they're unattractive and ugly. I would never wear something like that.
But then, another question popped up: What's wrong with wearing geeky clothes?
She was about to answer that, when suddenly she didn't know. What was wrong with dressing like a geek? She looked down at herself and began to think that her attire wasn't quite as bad as she thought. In fact, she started to prefer these clothes to her old ones.
What's wrong with me? she thought suddenly. But her answer came back as Nothing.
Slowly, her mind aligned with her new geek personality, until after a few minutes, she looked up at Samantha, who was crying. She had just lost her job because of a stupid mistake. Denise had to help her. And for the first time ever, she felt real compassion towards another person.
She stood up from the desk and walked over to Samantha and gently touched her arm. "I'm sorry I yelled at you. You still have your job. I was just mad," she said timidly.
Larry couldn't believe it. Denise's attitude was completely different. She wasn't mean anymore. And she obviously didn't mind being a geek. She did, in fact, like it.
