As Sarah and her friends turned the corner, they saw Jay being roughed up by Steve "The Stud" Farber. Steve was a jerk and a bully. He liked to beat up on defenseless guys, like Jay. He was also a womanizer. Sarah had found out first-hand, when she dated him about a year ago. She hadn't minded too much back then, because she was kind of a bitch herself. But now, she hated him for what he was, which was nothing more than a bully. And right now, he was bullying her boyfriend.
Standing next to Steve were two of his friends: Mike "The Moose" Matthews (a linebacker in the school football team) and Ross McKay (another guy that liked to bully people).
"Hey! Leave him alone," Steve heard a girl say. He glanced back and saw a group of geek freaks. He didn't stop to look long enough to notice that some of them were former cheerleaders. Ones that he knew very well, especially from the times he had slept with them.
He didn't leave Jay alone. Instead, he kept bullying him.
Sarah walked briskly over to them and stood between Steve and Jay. "Stop it."
Steve was shocked, as were his friends. "Sarah?" He looked her up and down, with a confused horrified look on his face. "What did you do to yourself?"
"Just leave my boyfriend alone. Okay?"
Then he burst out laughing. "He's your boyfriend? This loser?" He thought that she might have been playing a prank on Jay, like she had done before. Except, she had never dressed up like one of the geeks.
"He's not a loser," she said firmly.
Steve could tell by the look on her face that she was serious. She actually believed that Jay was her boyfriend.
"Did you bump your head or something? This isn't funny, Sarah. You're not a geek. Stop acting like one."
"I am a geek, Steve. And I like it."
Steve looked disgusted. He turned around and saw the other geeks standing behind Mike and Ross. Now he recognized them. And a strange sort of feeling washed over him, like he was in the Twilight Zone or something. This wasn't possible. Was it? Four hot cheerleaders become ugly geek freaks? That didn't really happen in real life, did it?
"Is there a problem here?" a woman asked. She was one of the hall monitors.
Steve didn't know what to say. Yes, there was a problem here. But not one that made sense. None of this made sense.
He just wanted to get out of there. So he said "No. There's no problem. We were just going." They left and the school monitor watched them as they did to make sure that they left.
Sarah put her hand on Jay's shoulder. "Are you okay?" She was deeply concerned.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Thanks for helping me out."
"That guy is such a jerk. Maybe we should use your device on him. It would definitely be an improvement."
"I don't have it here. I left it at home. I thought it would be safer there," Jay said, not realizing that his mother took it to work with her.
"That's probably a good idea. We'll just use it on him after school, then."
She seemed pretty eager to change others into geeks. Even more so than Jay himself.
When the hall monitor was satisfied that Steve and his friends posed no danger, she turned and walked to Jay and the girl that was with him. The girl had her back to her, so she hadn't recognized her. Only that she was dressed as a geek.
"Are you okay?" she asked her. The girl turned around. The hall monitor was shocked. "Sarah McMillan?"
