When they got to the restaurant parking lot, they met up with Jay Duncan. He had just eaten and he was leaving. Jay was a science geek, and had thick glasses and a thin body. But he was really smart. Probably one of smartest students at school. But most people made fun of him instead of commending him, because he was so much of a geek.
Jay's eyes lit up when he saw the device that Jon was carrying. He had never seen anything like it before, but he had deduced that it was an incredibly advanced piece of technology. And he just had to see it.
"What is that?" he asked Jon.
"It's uh ..." Jon wasn't sure if he should tell Jay anything about the device. Jon only wanted himself and Karyn to know about it. But, he decided that if there was even one other person he could trust, it would be Jay. "It's a device that I ..." Created? No. He'll want to know how Jon did that. "... that I got from someone."
"What does it do?"
"It's a personality manipulator. It changes people's personalities to match whatever personality trait is activated on the view screen."
Jon could tell that Jay wasn't believing him. "There's no such thing."
"Well, there is now." He lifted it up to Jay. "Take a look."
Jay took it, but skeptically.
Karyn leaned in towards Jon. "Jon, I don't think you should give it to him," she whispered.
"I can trust him. He's ..." Jon said, before he was interrupted by the high-pitched noise from the device.
Jon looked at Jay through thick glasses. "What? What did you do?"
"Wow! You weren't kidding," Jay said.
"Jon, you're a ... a ..." Karyn started to say, but couldn't finish.
So Jay finished the sentence for her, with a smile. "A science geek, like me."
