Jon woke up and immediately looked around. The device was gone and so were Karyn and Zoe. He touched his head. That punch really hurt, he thought to himself.
He got up, nearly falling over with dizziness when he did.
He looked down at himself. He appeared to be normal. His normal self. Apparently they didn't use the device on him. He wondered why.
His thoughts about that had to wait, though. He still needed to stop them. By now they could have been anywhere.
On his way to the mall entrance, he heard a scream. It was a girl's scream. And it was coming from the mall.
Jon hurried his pace into a run. When he got inside, he saw Zoe and Karyn standing only a few yards from a teenage girl and her mother. Karyn was holding the device, proudly. It was obvious that the girl's mother was the target, as she was dressed like a Goth.
"What? What's happened to me?" the mother said, looking down at her long black gothic dress.
Zoe smiled and said "You're like us now. And soon your daughter will be too."
Karyn aimed the device at the girl.
"Hey!" Jon yelled.
Karyn and Zoe looked over at him. Karyn sneered. "I told you it was a bad idea to leave him," she said to Zoe. Then she aimed the device at Jon, meaning to fire.
