"Wait!" Karyn yelled. Zoe hesitated.
It was enough to give Jon the opportunity to run down the hall and jump into his room. The door slammed behind him.
Zoe glared at Karyn.
"Sorry," Karyn said. Then she wondered why she had said that. But really, it was obvious. Her new Goth personality was beginning to dominate her more. She tried to fight it. But it started to feel natural to be on Zoe's side and see Jon (and people like Jon) as the enemy.
Zoe displayed a small wicked grin. "That's okay. There are other potential targets."
Karyn smiled. Then stopped suddenly. I'm not going to give in, she thought to herself. Turning normal people into Goths was bad. Jon was her friend. Not Zoe. But it started to become harder to think that way. Karyn did remember that Jon was her friend. Her memories weren't being changed. It's just that she was starting to no longer favor that former life.
Zoe smiled. "Don't fight it, Karyn. You'll make a great Goth. Believe me."
Karyn tried not to.
