"It's easy," said Karyn, "but I think I'll let you figure it out. Jon here can help you."

"Wait a minute," said the girl. "How can he be Jon? I'm Jon! I just asked the Replomat to make a female human being, with the default setting being to know what I know... so I should have gotten a girl who... Oh!"

"That's right," said Karyn. "If the machine makes a girl who knows what Jon knows, the girl thinks she's Jon!"

"What? Did I really not exist until just a minute ago?"

"Exactly," said Jon. "I wanted to make a girl, and I did. Don't you think it's sexy to be in my position? If you think like me, that is?"

"Well..." said the girl. "if I was looking at me come out of a box, yeah, I'd be turned on. But I'm not. I am the girl who came out of the box. I'm just like you changed into a girl. I don't want to be naked with a guy drooling over me, would you?"

"I suppose," said Jon. "Just ask the Replomat to get dressed."

"Sure. Replomat, make me some clothes."

"No details specified. Creating clothes for female teenager that falls into common categories of clothes worn by female teenager."

The girl opened the replicator's cabinet and groaned as she took out the clothes. "Argh," she said. "Those are girl clothes... And why can't you just wish me clothed?"

"Well," said Jon. "I suppose I could have. But..."

"But you wanted to see me put on clothes," said Jonnie. "Give me the stone. I'm going to fix this."

Jon grasped the stone more tightly. "No! You're not getting it! It's mine!"

"I remember all the same things you did!" retorted Jonnie. "Give me my stone!"

Jon might have chosen the moment to make a wish, except that Jonnie kicked him with the heel of her shoe. When Jon fell, she tried to get behind Jon to choke him, but Jon grabbed hold of her hair and pulled hard....

As the two struggled, the stone fell. Fortunately for them, Karyn picked it up. When Jon and Jonnie realized what was going on, they pushed each other away, just as Karyn said "I wish you'd let me fix this."

That ended the fight. They felt a sudden lethargy and slumped to the floor as Karyn made her wish. "I wish that Jonnie is in a parallel world where a female Jon who looks just like her died a moment ago.

The room shimmered around Jonnie. Karyn and the guy she thought she was vanished. She was alone now, in what looked like her room. In front of her was a pretty girl... a very familiar looking girl, because it looked just as she did in a mirror.

She didn't know whether to thank Karyn or yell at her.

Putting her hand on the girl's neck, she tried to feel for a pulse. The girl's skin was chilly and there was no pulse she could find. Not that she had any medical training... but considering the wish, she was certain the girl was dead.

In the body's hand was a rock... could it be? Yes, it was. It was the rock. Could it be this universe's version of the rock? Could it grant wishes?

She pried the rock out of the corpse's hand and said "I wish I was back with Karyn and the other me in the other world." Nothing happened.

"I wish, uh, that this corpse would vanish until I wish it back." The corpse disappeared and Jonnie sighed in relief. The rock really was a version of the wishing rock. But why couldn't she go bac-- of course! Karyn had wished she'd be in this universe. Wishing herself out of that universe would reverse the wish.

Which meant she was stuck here, in a world where she was a girl for real. She could at least wish herself into a boy... no, wait, she couldn't, not permanently. The wish had a limited range and everyone outside the wish range--databases, college applications, relatives a thousand miles away--would still remember the Jon of this world being a girl. She had to stay a girl if she wanted to take over the life of this Jon....
