"Let me look at the instructions," said Karyn.
"What?" replied Jon.
"Trust me, let me look at the instructions."
"Uh, sure, go ahead," said Jon.
Karyn knew, of course, the perils of making wishes that are phrased badly... or even making demands on machines that are phrased badly. "Here we go," said Karyn, as she opened a box and got out a mat, then a couple of other pieces of equipment, and told Jon to hook them up in various ways.
"Why can't I see the instructions?" asked Jon.
"It's a long story," said Karyn, "but I have my suspicions. Anyway, I think the corners of that mat are curling up, you'd better stand on it."
"We should just use a box to hold it down," said Jon, "but sure."
Of course, as soon as Jon stood on the mat, Karyn ordered the machine to do its work....
