"Are you ok Karyn?" Mrs. Bracken asked Karyn as they walked towards the nurse's office.
"I think so." Karyn said rubbing her head where the ball had hit her. "I think it'll just be a bruise."
"That's not what I meant." Mrs. Bracken said stopping Karyn. "I watched you the whole game and you were distracted the whole time. Normally you're one of the best on the team." She explained.
Karyn was surprised. She had never been good at basketball but then she figured that if she was on the football team in this reality then she was probably more athletic than usual.
Karyn shrugged her shoulders. "Sorry coach, I guess I've just been a bit distracted this morning."
"Boy trouble?" Mrs. Bracken asked looking at her.
"I guess you could say that." Karyn replied. She couldn't really tell her that she was from another universe where girls wore bras and boys didn't. She would think Karyn was mad.
Mrs. Bracken nodded in understanding. "I knew it." She said. "I've seen it before. Too many girls have been distracted by boys, getting into arguments or whatever." She paused as they continued on their way.
"Well whoever it is Karyn you make sure you stay focused on the game. We need you on top form come Sunday." She said.
"Er, thanks coach. I will." They had reached the office and Mrs. Bracken showed Karyn inside.
The nurse was sitting at his desk wearing a light blue nurse's uniform. He stood up as they entered.
"Karyn here got hit on her head. Can you take a look at her? I need to get back to class."
The nurse nodded. "Of course." He said softly reaching to feel the bruise on Karyn's head.
"Karyn, you can have the rest of the class off to recover." Mrs. Bracken said as she left the room.
Karyn waited patiently as the nurse examined her. She wondered how Jon's morning was going.
