As Jon and Karyn left their hiding place, Jon accidentally set off the Normalizer Ray. Carrying two devices and the stone was a bit much.
As soon as it went off, he froze.
"What is it?" Karyn asked.
"I ... I think I might have accidentally used the Normalizer Ray."
"Who did you shoot?"
"I don't know. But maybe it didn't hit anyone. Here," he said, giving the ray gun to Karyn. "Take it. I'm already carrying the swapper and the stone."
Karyn took the ray gun.
"You have it?"
"Yeah, Jon. Don't worry. I won't set it off. Accidentally, I mean."
"Good. Now let's go fix your hair."
"My hair? What's wrong with it?" she said, running her fingers through her crew cut. "Seems fine to me."
Oh no, Jon thought. I must have used the ray gun on Karyn. And now she thinks her hairstyle is normal!
