"Guys, give me a hand here," said Karyn. Joy and Alan stopped kissing (Sarah had only said to do it for a little bit) and Joy said "What?"
"Look, I'm sorry about the wish. I know it was my idea, but Sarah's the one who made it. Never mind all of that. I need to get this stone from Sarah."
"Like I said, what?" asked Joy. "You don't idolize her any more? I don't understand how that could have happened. Nobody made a wish for that and that would be an impossible wish anyway."
"Come on, you twits," said Karyn. "Magic has nothing to do with it. I got fed up with Sarah because she was treating me like I should be fed up with her. Stealing the stone and trying to make me forget would make anyone stop being friends with her."
Joy was beginning to understand. "She should idolize Sarah" doesn't mean she would idolize Sarah until the end of time, it would mean she would idolize Sarah until she does the kind of things that normally make someone stop idolizing them. "What is it you need help with?"
"I need help in taking this stone. She wished that I couldn't take it and I can't. It's stuck here in her purse."
"Is she carrying it?"
"It's in her purse," said Karyn.
"If she's not carrying it, then you're not taking it from her when you get it from the purse, right?"
"The stone doesn't agree with you," said Karyn. "I still can't take it."
"Wishes can be reinterpreted. Make a wish that you can take it."
"Okay, I wish that since the stone is in the purse and not being carried by Sarah, I can pick it up and that doesn't count as taking it from her." A moment later, Karyn triumphantly brought the stone out of the purse. "You might want to kiss to see if the hair wish only worked on one kiss. I have things to do."
Joy kissed Alan. Like before, it felt right, but Joy's memories said that it shouldn't. Nothing seemed to happen to Joy's hair, however.
"Now, Sarah," said Karyn. "I have the stone now, and just you watch...." She shook Sarah. Sarah's head fell back and her eyes rolled.
"I think she has a concussion," said Joy. "You can only knock people out safely in movies."
"Okay, fine," said Karyn. "I wish Sarah's okay but can't take the stone from me." Karyn, of course, did not have the stone in a purse.
Sarah got to her feet, saw Karyn with the stone, and immediately grabbed for it. She missed, somehow. She tried twice more and couldn't manage to either take the stone, or hit Karyn in such a way that she could take the stone. Then she spotted the dream machine. Joy being mostly a boy, this shouldn't have been a fair fight but Sarah managed to surprise Joy, and took the machine but fumbled it. It went flying onto the pavement. Meanwhile, Karyn was preparing to make a wish....
