Joy looked at Alison. "It's right!" she exclaimed. "Let me change you back... she really did us a favor, sort of, now that we know we can change back this way."
"All right," said Alison. "You change back."
"No, you change back!" replied Joy.
"But I don't want to change back any more," said Alison. "I may look weird this way but we can't have you looking the same way. If I make you a guy, we can go out with each other."
"I don't want to change back either! I want to stay just as I am I want you to be my boyfriend! You can't be my boyfriend if you have big hips and a vagina."
"What do we do?" said Alison. "We can't both be half girls and be each other's boyfriend...."
Sarah and Karyn were both sitting at home, laughing. "I wonder who's going to get it," said Karyn. "Each one wants to stay the same and make the other into her boyfriend. If 'her' is the right word. Someone is going to do it."
"We could wish up a magic TV or something," suggested Sarah. "But it's late. We can see what happens at school tomorrow."
Suddenly there came a sound from outside a window. Karyn looked over to see Joy having slid the window open and having reached for the stone. The wish to wake Karyn up wouldn't do anything if she was already awake. She took two fast steps towards the stone and reached for it, just as Joy did. They both scrambled for it and it went flying off.
In the street lamps outside she could see Joy and Alison. "Wait a minute," she said. "Neither of you changed. I wished that you wanted...."
"And so you did," said Joy. "But you girls think funny. I want a lot of things. I want a million dollars, but I don't steal it. I want sex, but I'm not a rapist. Just because I want someone to be my boyfriend doesn't mean I'm going to change them against their will. With you, anything you want and can get away with, you take. Not everyone is like that."
"That can be fixed. I can wish that one of you does it." But the stone had fallen somewhere. Did it land inside the window or outside? She looked around for it while Joy and Alison looked where they were....
