But Joy did have the stone. And walking past a barber shop, she got an idea.
It was impossible to use it to change back and reverse a wish, but it was possible to use it to help with mundane things.
"I wish that the barber would cut my hair to how I had it as Jon, and that it would happen at super-speed and nobody except me would notice that."
Joy suddenly found herself sitting in a chair. A man moved around her so fast that all she saw was a blur. Her head wasn't being dragged down so much by the long blonde hair and pieces of hair were appearing on an apron and on the floor.
Ten seconds later, Joy was paying the barber and walked out of the barber shop. She checked her watch. Still plenty of time to get to school... but she wasn't finished. "I wish I had some hair dye that would dye my hair so it looked like when I was Jon. I wish I could apply hair dye and clean up afterwards at super-speed. Now I wish I'm in my bathroom."
Five minutes later, Joy's hair looked exactly as it did as Jon. She had trouble getting the nails off (she couldn't figure out how to remove them and ended up making them fall off by themselves), and had to wish up some clothes, but eventually, she got as close to Jon as she could. Looking in the mirror she saw what seemed to be her old self--same face (which had never changed), no makeup, same hair, pretty much the same clothes. All that was left was her name and the physical changes to her body: breasts, hips, and genitals. She did look rather like a boy with some changes added on, but she felt a lot more like herself.
At school, the first person she ran across was Sarah McMillan. Sarah's didn't remember any changes, but she still found Joy amusing. "Oh, look, now Joy thinks she is a guy. I admit you're so tall and beefy you can almost pull it off, but you can't hide those boobs and hips... what a freakish girl!"
Alan, Joy's best friend and more, came up and tried to defend her. "Sarah, Joy is who she is."
