"Well, about your question, I mean ... you're still Jon. And I love you and all that, but ..." Alan trailed off.
"But what? Am I not sexy enough for you?" Joy asked.
"No, that's not it. Listen, I'll always remember you as Jon, the boy, I mean. It's just too awkward."
"Well, I have a way to fix that," Joy said.
"What are you going to do?" Alan asked, both interested and worried at the same time.
"Wait here," she said, then left the room. Once she was alone (so no one could hear her wish), she said "I wish Alan would think that I've always been a girl." She smiled, then returned.
