The display of the device indicated that Jennifer Taylor was now Jennifer McMillan. Sarah McMillan was still Sarah McMillan, at least in name. Maybe she now had Sarah Taylor's middle name. The girl's suit seemed to indicate that the new Sarah had Sarah Taylor's personality.
Jon vaguely recalled that the Taylor twins were their parents' only children. "I wish Karyn and I knew what happened to Sarah and Jennifer's parents."
Karyn and Jon could visualize the Taylors at work on the other side of town. The couple was oblivious to the fact that portraits of their twin daughters had vanished from their cubicles. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor never had children and had focused on their careers. Their titles changed and their clothes altered accordingly.
Since Jon hadn't specified which Sarah he had meant, he and Karyn could also see the effects of a second daughter on the McMillans, ranging from new wallet pictures to higher expenses.
"It's just not right," said Karyn. "I feel sorry for the Taylors. They should have at least one daughter back."
"One more Taylor, here we come." Jon set the reversal switch halfway.
The study hall monitor tapped him on the shoulder. "What are you doing with that toy gun?"
"Ack!" Jon panicked and fired the device. One beam struck Jennifer McMillan and the other struck Lee Cheng.
