"Hmm," said Jon. "I have an idea. We could change the device a bit. I wish I could discuss this with and make wishes with Karyn without anyone else noticing us."
"If you made a wish like that," said Karyn, "you obviously have something big in mind."
"Well, not really big. My idea has to do with the reversal switch. I wish that the reversal switch on this device had a third position, in addition to 'normal' and 'reverse', that would split a merged person into two people with randomly but equally distributed traits from the original two people. I also wish that the 'reverse' position of the switch would restore the original attributes of a person split using the 'random split' switch."
"Are you sure that's a good idea, Jon?" asked Karyn. "If we use this thing too much, we could end up with a huge mess of people with mismatched traits."
"Here. I wish that this device would have a button under a cover called the master reversal switch, which instantly restores anybody who has been affected by the device to their original state. We can use the stone for any damage control beyond that."
"That's good enough, I guess," said Karyn. "So who are we gonna try it out on first?"
