"Hmm," said Jon. "I have an idea. We could change the device a bit. I wish I could discuss this with and make wishes with Karyn without anyone else noticing us."
"If you made a wish like that," said Karyn, "you obviously have something big in mind."
"Well, not really big. My idea has to do with the reversal switch. What happens if we use the reverse setting on a normal person?"
"Nothing?" said Karyn.
"Karyn, you're not thinking right. It's magic. I didn't arrange for anything to happen, but I can change that. I wish that when I use the device in reverse on a single person, it splits the person into two people, so that if they were ever merged they'd be the original person again."
"So you're going to make a room of twins?"
"No," said Jon. "Maybe if someone has light hair, I can split them into two people, one with dark hair and one with blonde hair. Or if they're 16, I could split them into one who's 15 and one who's 17. In fact, if someone's, say, a masculine girl, I could split her into a guy and a more feminine girl. I don't know exactly what it's going to do, I just know that whatever I do can be reversed by a merging."
"Hmm, I see," she said, looking over the class as Jon flicked the reversal switch. "So who are we going to try the reverse merge on?"
