Powers or no powers, Jon and Karyn had to study. Jon was sure that in his new life he could stop bullets, prevent disasters, fight evil, but the one thing he was still afraid of was his mother.
All he wanted to do was explore his new life, try out his powers, see what the world had for him, but instead he was stuck reading his history text-book. It seemed that with his new-found abilities, reading and retaining came much easier to him. He'd flipped through the book three times before Karyn could read one chapter. Surprisingly, Jon found that he could recall most of the information as well.
Previous to his wish, Jon had always been a little bit behind Karyn in academics. In this new reality, it seemed that the roles were reversed.
"No Karyn," Jon sighed, "You have the wrong Roosevelt! FDR was World War II, Teddy had the Spanish-American War. Why can't you keep them straight?"
"Shut-up, Kara," Karyn said, again using Jon's new name in this reality. She hadn't called him Jon since his mother had left them alone together. Jon wasn't sure how he felt about it, "Some of us don't have the advantage of superpowers to help us study."
Jon rolled his eyes at his friend. She had helped him out so many times with his homework, now that he had the upper hand he wanted to repay the favour. He never knew how much patience it took to work with someone that couldn't keep up, though. Had she always felt that way about him?
Unconsciously Jon crossed one leg over the other at the knee. He enjoyed the soft feel of his hairless legs as they touched. His new life held pleasant surprises every moment it seemed. His clothes, while he'd never thought of dressing as a woman before, were surprisingly comfortable. His soft panties, his airy blouse, his tight skirt, all felt natural to him. He glanced across the room at his reflection, a teenage boy dressed as a woman, and smiled. It had a familiar feel to it.
"Okay, let's go over it again," Jon began, "Theodore Roosevelt Jr was born in..." Jon paused and tilted his head slightly. His brow furrowed, "Can you hear that?"
"What is it, Kara?" Karyn asked.
"Screaming. Someone needs help." Jon said, climbing to his feet, "I think it's from across town."
"You can hear that?!" Karyn said, shocked.
"Yes, and more," Jon said, "I'd better go, this sounds like a job for Power Girl."
In a whirlwind, Jon stripped out of his outfit, pulled his costume out of his hiding spot beneath his bed, put it on as if he'd done it a million times before, and flew out the open window, leaving Karyn behind wondering what she would tell his mother if she were to come in to check again.
