I groaned as I slowly came to consciousness. I had been in Hell for three days already, and staying in the inn each night, but the noises from the patrons were still making it difficult for me to get a full nights sleep.
"Yeah, night..." I said, glancing out the small window located on one of the walls of my room. There were no real day and night cycles here. I only judged the time by when I went to sleep and awoke.
I had spent most of my waking time searching, returning to the bar when I needed rest or sleep. According to the barkeep, he had seen none of my family, and I had come across none of them in my searches.
I stood from my bed. It was incredibly comfortable, and large, but it was still no substitute for my bed back home. I walked across the room to a table I used to hold my clothes, glancing into the mirror as I passed it. I shook my head as I did.
My body had changed. My body was a bit slimmer, my hair longer, my hips ever so slightly wider. My face appeared softer, and what little stubble I was able to grow before arriving here was absent. Looking at my chest, I could see that it was a bit puffy. I groaned again. "Guess fighting my 'new nature' isn't doing much good in keeping me from changing." I lifted my hands up slightly, looking at them. Even they had changed, becoming slimmer.
I shook my head, and took my clothes from the table. The same clothes I had arrived in. Not only were they slowly becoming a worse fit, but they were in desperate need of a wash.
"I might need to figure out a way to get a hold of some new clothes..." I said to myself as I left my room. I walked out to the main bar area. THe bartender looked up as I made my way out.
"Hey, J. Out to search again?" he asked.
"Yeah, No point in wasting time." I said.
"You want a drink before you head out?" he asked. I nodded. I didn't know what he put into the drinks he served me, but they were among the best things I had ever had. He quickly whipped one up and handed me the glass. I gulped it down quickly, savoring the taste the entire time. When I finished, I placed the glass back onto the counter and nodded.
"Thanks. I'm heading out now. And if any of my family happens to come in..."
"I'll keep 'em here for ya." the barkeep said.
I gave him my thanks and headed out to the busy streets. I didn't care if it would take me all of eternity. I would find my family, and I would get us home.
