As soon as Jon made the wish, he guessed what it would likely do. Probably split him into two. He closed his eyes and prepared to be pulled apart... which he didn't feel at all. But when he opened them he could see he was not quite where he was standing before, and next to him was a girl who looked a lot like him. Exactly like him, in fact, except her face was softer and her hair longer, and her body....

"What happened?" said the girl.

"You just... blurred and there were two of you," said Karyn. "Only you're a girl."

"Are you really me?" asked Jon.

"Of course," said the girl. "I remember what happened..."

"Whoa, whoa," said Karyn. "First of all, what's your name?"

"My name? Karyn, you know... well, I suppose you don't. My name is Jamie."

"But your sister's name is Zoe," replied Karyn. "That's sort of funny."

"Mom and Dad are big Dr. Who fans," explained Jamie.

"Anyway," said Jon, "what's going on?! I was you... wasn't I? And you made a wish..."

"How should I know?" replied Jamie, crossing her arms over her breasts.

Jon realized he wished he could talk to her, but that having her find the answer wasn't really part of the wish. He said it separately. "I guess you wouldn't know," said Jon. "How in the world could we figure out how..." Then Jon stared at the stone in his hands. At the same time, Jamie and Karyn were both staring at the stone.

"Uhh, yeah, of course," said Jon. "I just needed to ask the stone. I wish I knew what was going on and how to fix it."

It was just as Karyn had already discovered. Jon was really Jamie. Jamie had wished she didn't feel bad about her boyfriend moving away, which turned her into Jon, who hadn't ever had a boyfriend. Although someone who hears the wish doesn't automatically forget, they could still forget if they wished to forget something. Or if the wish came true by making them forget something.

Of course, this wish was easy to reinterpret.

"I've got it!" exclaimed Jon. "I have the answer. Here, catch this so I don't screw up." He tossed the stone to Jamie, so he wouldn't accidentally make a wish. "We can reinterpret wishes, right? I never said 'I wish I was a boy,' so I can change back and the wish will come true some other way--I'll just not feel bad about my boyfriend because I got over him. I just need to wish I'm a girl again."

"If you do that there'll be two of you as a girl," said Karyn.

"Yeah," said Jon. "Besides, I don't want to do it anyway. Being a guy feels right. It's what I remember my whole life as being now. And I don't want to make a hasty wish, anyway, without taking some time to think about it."

"And I have the stone," said Jamie.

"Well, there is that," said Jon. "I don't suppose you could lend it to me?"

"I don't need to lend it," replied the girl. "It belongs to both of us! But we can't use it now, we have to get to school. We're going to be late if we don't go out right now, and we'll probably have to run anyway..."

"How is the school going to deal with two of you?" said Karyn.

"Uhh," replied both Jon and Jamie. Jon paused and Jamie spoke. "They'll remember two of us as being normal. Let's go..."
