"I wish Mikey would fall asleep and be teleported to his room now, not remembering coming here or hearing any wishes, and not thinking we have any memory problems."
Suddenly Mikey disappeared from the room.
"Wheeeew," said Jon, relieved. "That could have been serious trouble. But we'd better get moving. The wish made us cyborgs and our voice boxes have to be artificial, but anything else can be what we want. We could be mostly human if we want rather than almost all machine."
"I don't know," said Karyn. "If we look human, and we can function as humans, it should be okay. I just need to wish away our vulnerabilities, like needing to be recharged and being susceptible to computer viruses. But first, I wish we knew what we're expected to know about the new history."
Jon felt dizzy for a moment. But then memories poured into his brain. "The pictures. We didn't look exactly the same. They edited the pictures to put in younger images of our cyborg bodies so we could show people pictures without them thinking anything's wrong."
"Yeah," said Karyn. "Because the alien technology doesn't let them create exact lookalike bodies. In fact, Mikey's due for a change right now."
"That's right!" said Jon. "We're teenagers and we just need some cosmetic changes to become adults in a few years--but Mikey's twelve. It would be bad for him to look like an adult when he isn't, so until he gets to be our age he gets transferred to new older-looking bodies every year. In fact, his next body change is tomorrow, but the trouble is, his new body..."
