"Well," said Jon, "first we need to wish for better control over our own strength!"
"Hey," said Karyn. "It worked! You can say the word 'wish' because it's not your original voice box."
"Yeah... Well, about that strength. And another thing, but we'd better do this first."
"Okay," said Karyn. "I wish that Jon and I instinctively use strength much like that of normal humans unless we decide not to, on purpose."
Jon picked up a pencil off of the desk. He tossed it in the air. It went up a few feet and he easily caught it again. Then, he crushed the pencil in the middle and it shattered into graphite and splinters separating the eraser and point end.
"That's better," said Jon. "I only crushed it when I tried to. Now, the other thing. Well, the other things. First, we need Sarah to forget about us."
"Okay, I wish Sarah forgets she was ever here today and forgets about the stone and wishes."
"Now, I'm not sure about the next one. You see, Karyn, there's something we forgot about this stone."
"I don't remember... wait a minute! I know! It changes reality! It's as if things were always this way!"
"Right," said Jon. "Which means that for us to be cyborgs is a part of reality. Everyone thinks we've always been cyborgs."
"God, that's weird," replied Karyn. "So we can't go to school and cheat electronically. Everyone knows we're cyborgs and they're expecting it."
"Well, we could wish we were part of a secret project and nobody else, not even our family, knows we're cyborgs. Then there are other problems. Are we mostly human or is just our brain human? Do we eat food or plug in the wall? Are there other cyborgs like us? Does someone have a remote control for us? Do we come apart? We'll have to figure it out... or just wish for the version we want."
"Well, all I need to do is wish...." But Karyn never finished her sentence, because they heard footsteps approach. And they were peculiarly heavy footsteps, and their cyborg hearing easily showed that the person coming wasn't completely human....
