Karyn told Jon her idea.
"That's interesting. But I've got a better idea."
Suddenly the phone went dead. "Jon? Are you there? I think I lost the signal." She shook her phone. "Stupid cellphone."
After a few seconds, Karyn got a chill, as if a gentle cold wind swept through the room. She looked down at the phone in her hand and wondered why she had it. Was she about to call someone? She couldn't remember.
Her phone rang and she answered it. "Did that work? Is it better?" the voice said over the phone.
"Who is this? How did you get my cell number?" Karyn demanded.
"Oh no, I must have said something wrong. Don't worry, Karyn. I'll try to fix it with another wish."
"How do you know my name? Who are you?"
"I'm Jon. Jon Smith. I'm your friend."
"Yuck. You're that loser from school."
"Loser?" Jon said. "That wish changed a lot. I better find a way to fix it," he said to himself.
"Wish? What are you talking about?"
"Who are you talking to, Karyn?" asked Sarah. "The girls are waiting for us. We better get going."
"It's no one." Karyn turned off her cell phone and left with Sarah, her "new" friend.
Back at Jon's house.
"Karyn? Karyn? She hung up on me. Boy, I really messed things up. I have to think of a way to fix this." He thought that if Sarah and her friends were closer friends of Karyn's, then they would change. But the wish changed Karyn instead. It made her more like them, instead of them more like her.
