As the door began to open, Karyn frantically covered her chest, not wanting to be seen in the revealing outfit. But when her mother emerged from the door, she seemed unphased. Almost as if she was used to seeing her like that.
"Karyn, your friend Sarah is here.", Her mother informed her.
My friend Sarah?, Karyn thought, bewildered. She thought about the implications for a bit until she realized she was just staring into space.
"Uh, y-yeah mom, tell her to come on in."
Again, her mother didn't seem too phased by her odd silence, although Karyn could have sworn she saw her rolling her eyes as she walked out of the room to retrieve Sarah.
If there was anyone I wanted to see less right now... Karyn thought as Sarah McMillan walked in, wearing her usual slutty attire. There was a long, tense moment, as Sarah stared at her. Neither of them liked eachother, and they both knew it.
"Nice outfit.", Sarah commented sarcastically as a greeting.
Damn. Wish I'd told mom to make her wait so I could change out of this ridiculous thing,Karyn thought, embarassed, although it was just as revealing as what Sarah was wearing.
Another tense moment followed. Karyn fidgeted nervously and tucked a long lock of light blonde hair behind her ear, idly realizing it was the exact same color and length as Sarah's. Sarah seemed quite composed. Karyn didn't like that one bit.
"So, what do you want?", Karyn finally asked, to break the silence.
"Oh, nothing. Just...here to tell you that I know about your little dye job."
Karyn froze. How could Sarah know about the rock? This was bad. Very, very bad.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, but I think you do. Until about an hour ago, your hair was red, blondey.", Sarah replied. "I don't know how you did it, but I know you did. I overheard you and that loser Jon this afternoon."
Thank God, she doesn't know about the stone, she just overheard us, Karyn exulted. This was still bad though, she reminded herself. She has a hint, and knowing Sarah she wouldn't stop until she knew, just to spite them.
"I thought it was just an accident, but judging by that little number, it looks like you're trying be me. I really can't blame you, but I don't like people upstaging me. I will find out how you did this eventually.", Sarah declared.
"Is that all you wanted to say, or are we done?", Karyn said, defiant and somewhat disgusted at Sarah's belief that she was imitating her.
"As wonderful as it is wasting my time with you, no it isn't. I happened to mention my...distaste for you around Stacey Gibson." Sarah informed her. Karyn knew Stacey as one of Sarah's lackeys. She was an attractive blonde girl, seventeen years old, Sarah's age, and a bit of a ditz. The stereotypical cheerleader.
"You see, she usually agrees with me on these things, and she was too spineless to say anything, but I could tell she was surprised. Apparently, everyone remembers you the way you are now, and not only that, but they think we're friends. Friends! I mean, can you imagine someone like me hanging out with someone like you?" Sarah seemed genuinely disgusted at the idea. The feeling was mutual.
"So, my point is, some friends of mine are going to be coming here in fifteen minutes. They're going to pick us up, and we're going to go hang out at the mall together. Believe me, spending the rest of the day with you isn't my idea of a good time, but your little wishes have gotten me into this, and I'm not sacrificing my image for you, at least until I know how you did this."
Karyn was shocked. Could the stone really have changed things this much? She had to tell Jon.
"I'm not going." Karyn said, adamantly.
"Oh yes, you are. Why the cold feet suddenly? You probably wished for this anyway." Sarah was clearly getting angry.
"I didn't wish for this, and I'm not going." Karyn was putting her foot down. She didn't want to spend all day with Sarah's cheerleading friends like some blonde bimbo. She had to talk to Jon.
"How many times do I have to repeat myself? You are going. You know why? Because if you don't, I'll make sure your little friends never talk to you again. I can be very persuasive when I want to be." Sarah, grinned and winked meaningfully at her.
Karyn wasn't worried. She knew none of her friends would be that shallow. Certainly not Jon. Would they? Would he?
It's only one afternoon, how bad can it be? Not bad enough to risk losing access to the rock and fixing this, much less never seeing Jon again... Karyn thought.
"I'm waiting!" Sarah declared impatiently.
Karyn was conflicted. What would she do?
