grabbed a coin. A quarter. The idea was simple: put it by Jon's door with a spell on it set to go off when he picks it up.
Dannie left the store and walked down the mall, until she got to Jon's Magic Shop. Then she placed it by the door, careful to make it fall within Jon's concealment spell--so that it wouldn't be seen by someone who was just walking across the mall.
A few minutes later, Jon left the store to get something from McDonalds in the food court, only to notice a quarter dropped by his door. Having long since wished to become a magician, he now had enough power that he didn't need to pick up coins, but old habits die hard. Jon picked up the quarter...
And suddenly, Karyn was dressed in a cheerleading outfit with pompoms.
"It didn't work," said the old man in the bathrobe.
"But I put it right where...." replied Dannie.
"It isn't your fault," said the old man. You couldn't know there were details that messed the spell up. You see, it turns out Jon and his assistant Karyn are really the same person. Which let him set things up so that a simple sex-change spell aimed at him would just affect Karyn instead. We need something more complicated.
Meanwhile, Jon, knowing very well what had just happened, prepared to do something back to the old man....
