Erica was standing in line with Jason at the movie theater, a bit uncomfortably. She had been Eric until recently, then changed Jason to be straight but to like Eric... which worked badly, until she became a girl in order to fit Jason's desires. Which was all fine for Jason, but not for her. Erica was wondering just how she had managed to get herself into this. After all, Erica was a straight guy too. She had only become Erica for this date because that seemed to be a way to fix the mess, so there was nothing she could do except go on the date and maybe try to fix everything with the Master PC later on.
Meanwhile, Eric's twelve year old sister Lizzie had sneaked into Eric's room and saw Eric's new PC. She sat down in front of it and began touching things; as soon as she hit the mouse the screen popped on.
What was this, she wondered, a Photoshop program? It looked easy to use but there was message window. "Warning: consistency set to 'auto'."
What the computer had meant was that some of the transformations that Eric did changed reality and/or memory, and some didn't. For instance, the transformation of Jason to become Eric's boyfriend had affected Jason's memory of the past. The transformation of Eric into Erica had affected Erica's clothes and room--yet it didn't affect Jason's memory at all. Then the demonstration that temporarily changed Jason's hair didn't affect anything other than the hair itself. Because Eric had not specified how it was to work, the computer would pick whatever it thought worked best.
Lizzie dismissed the message window and looked at the picture. It was still showing Jason and the message that Erica had typed in. Lizzie read it and was confused. Jason in love with Eric? (She knew that--in fact, unknown to her, that change had changed everyone's memories, which was why she knew that.) Jason recognizes Erica as Eric? (Erica? Who's that?)
But then Lizzie finally figured it out. She realized that the room looked wrong. She had entered Eric's room, but considering the posters on the walls, the photographs, the colors, the clothes she could see in the closet... this was a girl's room. One picture even showed Eric with their parents... only now the picture had a very similar-looking girl in it. Somehow, Eric had turned into Erica!
The image of Jason had some icons near it. Lizzie clicked one and some text popped up: "Current situation: On date with Erica." That was getting even weirder and weirder. Her brother was a girl, and dating his best friend. Clicking on the name "Erica" brought up a picture of Erica too.
It seemed that the computer could be used to edit the pictures or type in some text that changed things. Lizzie decided to try a few things....
