A beautiful ring caught Jake's eye. It was simple and elegant, with a single small ruby set in silver.
"As you can see, we have an excellent selection of jewelry," a voice said, causing Jake to spin around. The young man startled him.
"Where did you come from?" Jake asked.
"Why, I've been here the whole time. You must not have noticed. So, do you see anything you like?"
Jake was a little creeped out by the guy for some reason, but he knew he had to have that ring. Bree would love it. And at $68.17, the price was perfect ... for a ruby anyway. "I'll take that one," he said, pointing at the ring.
"Excellent choice. That ring has fantastic power."
"Power?"
"Yes, it allows the wearer to grant wishes. Would you like to hear how it works?"
"No thanks, man. I'm in a hurry. I don't have time for this wish mumbo jumbo."
"Very well, then."
With that, Jake paid for the ring and headed back to his apartment.
