When Jake arrived back at his apartment, the first thing he noticed was his roommate Dave sitting on the couch, watching a basketball game. The second thing he noticed was that Breanne wasn't there yet. Good. It'll give me some time to wrap this thing, he thought.
"Hey, man," Dave said, glancing up at him. "Breanne called. She's gonna be a little late." The game paused for a commercial break, so Dave used it to ask him "So, what did you get her?"
"A necklace."
"Man, you should've gone for a ring."
"Nah, this is better. You know how much Breanne loves necklaces. Plus ..." Jake said. "The guy who sold it to me said it could grant wishes."
"Get outta here," Dave said, with obvious disbelief.
"No, really."
"Did you try it out?" Dave asked.
"Why? It's just a bunch of nonsense. Only an idiot would believe in magic necklaces."
"Then let me try it," Dave said.
Jake gave him a funny look, then sighed and took the necklace out of the box. "Don't damage it. I'm still gonna give it to Breanne."
Dave sat up a bit on the couch and looked at the piece of jewelry as Jake took it out. "Man, that's fancy. It kind of has, oh I don't know, a weird sparkle to it. Is it really gold?"
"I don't know. Probably not. Not for what I paid for it."
"Well, give it here," Dave said. "Let's see if it's really magic."
