"So, do you want the potion or not?" Jon asked.
"Yeah, okay. Uh ... but I don't have enough money with me," Haley said.
"How much do you have?"
Haley looked through her purse and only found nine dollars. She didn't need money to buy a costume for the party because Breanne said she'd pay for everything, with the money her mother gave her.
"Nine dollars," she said, thinking it wouldn't be enough.
"Then you're in luck. The price for this potion is eight dollars."
"Really?" she asked, surprised that it could be so cheap.
"Well, it's just this little vial. Now, if you wanted something bigger ..."
"No, no. This is just fine," she said. Although, she wasn't quite sure why she was so eager to buy it. She had no idea what it did.
"Then here you go," he said, handing over the vial and taking the eight dollars from her hand. "Have fun at the party," he said, as she turned to leave the store.
"How did you know about the ..." she started to ask, turning around, but he was gone. "That's weird," she muttered to herself. Then she turned back around and walked out of the store, with her newest acquisition: a mind-altering potion (which already caused her to forget all about Jake and made her overly attracted to Jon - thanks to a few well-placed words by the young shopkeeper - but also caused her to subconsciously use the potion on other people and change their minds as she saw fit).
