Jon stirred. He vaguely heard the teacher saying something about writing essays and how important good grammar and spelling are.
"Jon, wake up! Why is a student falling asleep in my class?"
It was because he was up all night thinking about the stone, but he couldn't say that.
Jon didn't want the teacher to penalize him for falling asleep in class, so he made a wish. He whispered the wish, since unlike in the strange dream, he couldn't just make the wishes by thought. "I wish that the teacher and the other students didn't notice I fell asleep in class or didn't pay attention today." And instantly the teacher was going on as if nothing was happening.
Later that day Jon was explaining to Karyn about his dream. "... and it merged me with the cat because it detected DNA in there. It's a good thing it didn't merge me with the bacteria in and around me, since those have DNA. Or with the DNA in the tomatoes in my bag lunch."
"What would you have done if that had happened in real life?" wondered Karyn.
"Oh, that's simple. I would have wished myself to turn back from a cat girl to Jon."
