Machine error

You see, even in the most meticulous mass produced machines errors sometimes happen. They slip through the process unnoticed, quality inspection misses them. In this case it happened with the DNA identification chip. One of the chips head sincs were broken and the stress of the heat caused to to melt and warp damaging its identification abilites slightly. As the red button was pushed and Mom and Jon beamed out a bit of smoke rose from the chip. The machines diagnostic screen flashed ERROR! repeatedly. A failsafe kicked in trying to stop the process, this made things worse as it forced a quick reasssemmble. The burnt out chip was strained from its impaired DNA recognition ability, and the quick data dump of the halted transfer just made things worse as it tried to force the chip to decide quickly. So garbled genetic data was being materialized faster than the chip could sort it out.
