The transporter, of course, did exactly the same thing with the rock that it did with the pile of gravel. Out of the transporter popped another Karyn with tanned legs, who ran towards Jon, the only clothed Karyn (aside from the real one) and began to grope her.

Which is one way not to have to grab the stone. Let it grab you instead.

"I wish that all these Karyns here with the tanned legs turned back into rocks." Since Jon was touching the (transformed) stone, the wish worked. The Karyns poofed out of existence, and Jon picked up the magic stone again. Of course, the real Karyn didn't have tanned legs. She had, after all, just returned from spending spring break with her parents in the mountains and that wasn't a good place to get a tan.

The real Karyn, bemused, said "That was surreal. Nine of me altogether... you, me, one from the acorn, five from the gravel, and one from the stone... I don't get it, though. Stones don't have DNA."

"I bet it's another malfunction," said Jon. "I wish that the transporter is completely fixed."

They couldn't see any change, but the sensation of having to look away showed that the wish had indeed worked. Karyn turned repair mode off. "They're all gone," she said. "Except for the one that came from part of you as a tree. The one that wasn't a bimbo."

"She's naked," said Jon. "She isn't going to run out into the street--she has to be in the house somewhere. Let's go find her."

"You're forgetting something, Jon!" said Karyn. "You have a magic stone! Just wish for her to be here!"

"Hmm. That's right. I do have a magic stone. Okay, I wish that the other Karyn was here."

A naked Karyn appeared out of thin air, wrapped in a towel, which she had managed to find in the house somewhere. She screamed. "How did I get here?!"

"Calm down, calm down," said Jon. "No... I wish you'd calm down. Let me explain everything."

"Just change her back," said Karyn. "Then you can change yourself back."

"What do you mean change me back?" said the extra Karyn.

"Look," said Jon. "There was a transporter accident and I turned into a tree... then we tried to fix it by making me a girl, but it took an acorn from me and made that into a girl too, and that's you. We have to change you back."

"I don't want to be an acorn. Besides, that doesn't make any sense. The acorn didn't start as an acorn, so that wouldn't be my original form. You can't change me to it and say you changed me back."

"Hmm, I guess you're right," said Jon. Turning to the real Karyn and making it very clear that that was the one he was asking, Jon said, "Karyn, I give up. You figure out what to do; you make the wish." He tossed the stone to her; she caught it and then said....
