"What difference does it make whether Santa knows I'm here?" Jon asked the elf. "Doesn't he like kids?"
"Keep your voice down," the elf whispered. "The Santa you think you know and the Santa that really exists are two completely different things." The elf sighed, then held out his hand. "Come with me. I can hide you somewhere."
Suddenly, the ho ho hos sounded a lot closer. Like right outside the room, actually.
"Come with me," the elf whispered a little louder. He wasn't joking around. He seemed to think that Jon was in peril. But why? What kind of reaction would Santa Claus have?
