Looking at the cave wall, what at first looked like a short shadow gradually became a taller one, and then the person emerged from around the corner. Jon's grandfather was positioned to strike, but then halted after he saw who it was.
"Jon! What are you ... how did you get here?" he asked, stunned, but pleased.
"With Santa Claus. I took a ride down here on his sleigh," Jon said.
Jon's grandfather sighed with relief. "Thank goodness you're alright. Did you get the wishing stone?"
"Yeah, I did. Thanks for that."
"So, did you just come down with Santa? Or did you bring someone else? Maybe an army?" he asked his grandson.
"Nope," Jon said, smiling. "It's just me and Santa."
"That's a bit short-sighted of you, Jon. But I'm glad to see you anyway. Please, show us the way out. We can't let Supay know that we've left."
"Oh, I don't think that's going to be a problem," Jon said, sounding a little more sinister than usual.
His grandfather was concerned for a moment, but then just shrugged it off. "Show us the way."
Jon smiled, then pointed to the exit. After his grandfather and the other prisoners passed him, his smile turned into a devious grin. Idiots, he thought. Those fools don't even realize that I'm actually the April Fool in disguise. My plan is working perfectly!
Meanwhile, the real Jon was heading down to Peru in Santa's sleigh, accompanied by Santa himself and Karyn.
