Jon fell out of his bed with a startled yelp. Zoe had just turned her music on at full blast and it was thrumming through the wall that divided their rooms.
Jon couldn't understand how his sister could listen to that techno-industrial sound pollution without her ears bleeding, but he took the noise as impetus to get ready for school anyway. Grumbling and making a half-hearted attempt to cover his ears, Jon slouched his way to the bathroom. The noise was even louder in the hall, as Zoe's bedroom door was ajar.
Wait, did that mean...?
Jon tried the handle on the bathroom door and found it locked. He was greeted by Zoe's voice calling from the other said, "Go away!"
Jon scowled. What the hell? She turned the music up in her bedroom so she could hear it from the bathroom across the hall?? He stormed back to his room in a huff, but that offered no respite... the terribly loud and terrible music still beat against the walls of his room, and his skull. He'd had enough of this crap.
Grabbing the stone in his left hand, and quite unaware that this identical-looking rock was in fact the Family Stone, Jon made his first wish of the day.
