"Ding dong." the doorbell to an apartment of three young men rings
Richard, a burly man lazing around watching TV, ignores the bell thinking that one of his roommates will answer it instead.
moments pass and the door remains unanswered
"Richard?" a nerdish voice sounds from another room
"Yeah?"
"I'm on the toilet. Can you get the door?"
Grumbling to himself, Richard lifts off the sofa and waddles over to the entrance.
Unlocking and opening the door he is greeted by nothing other than a rather large parcel more than half the height of himself.
after checking the parcel, there didn't appear to be any sort of delivery note on it.
"Did you order something Ned?"
after a flush, Ned, a lanky late teen walks out of the toilet.
"Wasn't me. It's probably Lance's."
"Go get him then."
Ned obliged and walked over to his roommate Lance's room.
After a knock and then opening of the door, Ned sees Lance on his computer. "Lance?"
turning around and taking his headphones off one ear, Lance looks towards Ned.
"You have a parcel at the door." Ned says
"Give me a moment then." Lance says as Ned leaves
"Did I order something?" He then thinks
Lance takes off his headphones and walks towards the apartments entrance after finishing the video he was watching.
Curiosity having overcome him, Richard had already fully opened the box by the time Lance got there.
Inside was an expressionless golden totem. It looked a little like a religious monk, It's proportions were slightly larger than most, as even in it's sitting position it reached almost 4 feet tall. It's left hand was outstretched from the elbow, palm upwards, while the other was pointing towards the ceiling with two fingers.
"Hahahaa." "You ordered this Lance?"
"Of course not. It's obviously the wrong address."
"Freebies then."
A tattered note was held in the hand that pointed upwards
Lance reached over and grabbed the paper. He then read out loud:
PLACE YOUR HAND ON MINE AND MAKE A WISH.
HALF THE TIME YOUR WISH SHALL BE GRANTED.
HALF THE TIME IT SHALL BE REVERSED.
you cannot change the past.
wishes are permanent and cannot be undone.
no cheating the rules.
BE COURTEOUS.
