Because this stone was actually The Substitution Stone, Zoe's wish was changed to "I wish all the mothers would become Goths."
To Zoe and Athena's confusion, none of the preppy girls who were roaming around the school grounds seemed to change. Unknown to them, however, quite a few people did change. It's just that they weren't part of the Prep crowd.
"Hey, what the fuck?" Zoe uttered. "How come they didn't turn into Goths?"
At Zoe's house, her mother Jane was just leaving to go to work. She was a secretary at one of the downtown law firms.
But as she left the house, her entire reality changed, not that she would notice. Because of Zoe's wish, her mother was now a Goth and dressed appropriately so, with a black lace corset and black worn skirt and black heeled boots. A pentagram necklace hung down from her neck. She checked the clock in the living room and saw that if she didn't leave soon, she'd be late. She was a saleswoman at The Goth Stop, which in this new reality was the size of a small warehouse. It needed to be, since now all mothers in the entire town were Goths.
