"You're skinny now!" Lauren pointed a thin finger at Gladys. "Just like me." Both girls had skeletal figures that their padded clothing failed to conceal. Lauren had none of the curves of her former self, though she retained her mother's big nose. The chubby girls flanking Lauren and Gladys had disgust written all over their round faces.
"Shut up back there, O'Brien! We know you're a twig!" shouted some boy, no doubt a human beach ball like his friends.
"We're still losers," whispered Lauren. "Skinny losers."
"The stone did this to us," said Gladys.
"The stone? But how?" Lauren looked at her bony hands. "It's gone! Where'd it go?"
