Like all possessors of this particular stone, Jon's mother (Linda) thought it was the wishing stone (the one that Jon had inherited from his grandfather - Linda's father). But Linda thought that she had inherited from her father, and not Jon.
So, she had no idea that the stone would disappear after her first wish.
Clutching the stone, Linda said "I wish ..."
