"Let me try it," said Karyn. "I'm a girl now. If I put on lipstick, nobody's going to notice it."
"All right," replied Jon, handing her the lipstick. "But be careful. You can't change back into a guy unless you want to be a guy with long blonde hair and breasts."
Karyn applied the lipstick to her lips and thought over her wish. Then she said, "I wish that I just turned into a girl a week ago, but nobody is prejudiced against me or thinks I'm a freak because of that."
Jon suddenly felt he had to look away, but when he looked back he couldn't see any difference. "I think that worked, but it looks just the same."
"I think it would," replied Karyn. "But you see, even though I can't turn back into a guy, I can change things so that I have the life I would if I had stayed a guy until now. I'm probably on the guys' soccer team right now and they're still trying to figure out if I have to leave."
"What if being a guy until last week would give you a girlfriend?"
"Then I have a girlfriend!" Karyn grinned. "She just thinks I changed last week. I hope we don't break up because of this but maybe I can wish we don't...."
