Jon couldn't see the stone anywhere in the hallway. "Shit!" he said, starting to panic. He figured he had a choice - he could go back to hiding in the washroom, and hope that Karyn came back soon, or he could keep searching for the stone and hope that he found it right away.
Jon decided to keep searching. He had seen Norm drop the stone; maybe it got kicked down the hall by another student?
