Jon flew out the front door in excitement. Karyn followed, but was a little less enthusiastic. Why are boys so interested in sports cars? Karyn thought.
She watched Jon jump up and down around the car.
"This is so freakin' awesome," he said. He went to open the car, but it appeared to be locked. He shielded his eyes from the sunlight and looked in through the windows. "That's strange."
"What?" Karyn asked, walking over.
"There's a jacket in there ... and an empty cola can?"
"That does sound a little strange, but maybe the stone just gave you a little extra. It changes reality, remember? No one else heard the wish, so as far as everyone else knows, this has always been your car. Maybe that jacket is yours."
"Yeah, that makes sense." Jon felt around in his pocket for the car keys, but he couldn't find them. "I don't have the car keys."
"Maybe they're in your bedroom."
Jon checked his watch. It was already time to leave for school. "I guess I can search for them later. Come on, we better get to school."
"Are you sure it was stolen?" the cop asked.
"Of course it was stolen. Do you think I'd call the fucking police if it wasn't?"
"There's no need to be hostile, sir."
"Sorry. It's just that that car is very expensive."
"Don't worry, Mr. McMillan. We'll find it."
