Nadine Ferguson's mother Laura was sitting in the living room reading the Bible (she made it a point to read at least a chapter a day) when suddenly there was a crash from the kitchen. "Good lord, what was that?" she cried. She put down the book and ran into the kitchen, seeing that a plate had fallen off the counter near the sink. It sat in pieces on the floor. Among the pieces of the shattered plate was an odd-looking stone. She picked it up and looked at it. She had never seen it before. How had it gotten there?
"I wish I knew where this came from," she uttered to herself. Suddenly, the stone glowed, causing her to drop it, in surprise. And then knowledge filled her head. She knew where it came from. It came from the bedroom of someone named Jon Gibson. She also knew that the stone was magic. Laura's viewpoint on magic was that it was evil, nothing good could come from it. But as she looked at the stone lying on the floor, she wondered if that was really true. Surely, wishes made by someone who was pure of heart (like herself) couldn't be evil, right?
She picked the stone up and took it back to the living room with her. And after sitting back down on the sofa, she made another wish. "I wish ..."
