The next day before school started, Jon met up with Karyn at their usual meeting spot, the wall where he first showed her the wishing stone.
"Did you bring it?" she asked.
"Of course, I did," Jon answered, pulling the stone out of his pocket.
"Can I use it? I know exactly what I want to wish for. I was thinking about it all last night."
"Uh, I don't know, Karyn," Jon said. He was clearly hesitant. "After what happened yesterday ..."
"That was an accident, Jon. I told you, I thought this one through."
Jon shrugged his shoulders and handed the stone over. "Okay. But if you mess up again, I won't let you wish any more. At least not for a while."
"I won't mess up." She held the stone in her hand, not realizing that it was actually The Ethical Stone, and said "I wish ..."
