Melissa raised her hands in front of her face. She knew they couldn't shield her from Zoe's magic, but what else could she do? She didn't know that might be the last time she ever used them. Her fingers fused into chitinous claws. "No!"
"Yes." Zoe smiled at her newest creation.
Melissa's torso narrowed and lengthened into dozens of armored segments. A pair of legs popped out of each segment. Her original legs - and arms - mutated and shrivelled until they matched the twenty other pairs of legs in size.
Melissa had become a giant centipede with a human head. "Thank you, o Dark Goddess, for getting rid of my ... ugh ... arms." She waved her venomous claws at Karyn. No human could ever feel the joy of embracing and poisoning an enemy with her maxillopeds. If she weren't hungry for prey, she'd almost feel sorry for the pathetic little biped.
(Author's note: According to Wikipedia, most centipedes normally have around 50 legs.)
